BBFC Ratings
As anyone in the group isn't eighteen or over, it would be inappropriate to make an opening title sequence that is of the rating of eighteen.
With that being considered, we can only use the age ratings of twelve or fifteen. As our brief is to make the a horror film, and the idea of horror films is to make the audience scared, we have chosen to make our film rating a fifteen, as we can do more with it.

U (Universal
This means that it is suitable for all audiences
If a certificate is rated U, then it cannot have any bad language or any horror of any sorts in it. This means that it would be inappropriate to use this certificate for our opening title sequence. Also there cannot be reference to any kind of drug use, or drug handling as well as not being allowed to have too much violence, and the violence has to be cartoon violence, this would make, making a slasher impossible at the rating of U

PG (Parental Guidance)
PG stands for Parental Guidance. This means a film is suitable for general viewing, but some scenes may be unsuitable for young children. A PG film should not unsettle a child aged around eight or older. Parents should consider whether the content may upset younger, or more sensitive, children.
Even though at PG, more is allowed to be shown, it would still be impossible to make a horror, with the rating of PG, especially a slasher; which is our chosen sub-genre.

12
The rating 12, simply means that you have to be 12 years of age to watch the film. Unless you are with an adult; 18 years or older. Under regulations we are allowed to make horror with an age rating of 12, look at the woman in black as an example. However as we want our sub-genre to be a slasher, having the rating 12 would be inappropriate, as well as restricting what we could and couldn't show.
15 (Our Chosen Certificate)
As I mentioned earlier, we are 16/17 years of age, so having our opening title sequence at around the same age as us appealed. However, being a 15 still does restrict what we can and cannot do and show.
This is a list of the following things we can say and do in our opening title sequence.
This is a list of the following things we can say and do in our opening title sequence.
- Strong violence
- Frequent strong language (e.g. 'f***').
- Portrayals of sexual activity
- Strong verbal references to sex
- Sexual nudity (Despite this being allowed in a 15 certificate, we have concluded that it wouldn't be right to show this, especially as we are underage.)
- Brief scenes of sexual violence or verbal references to sexual violence
- Discriminatory language or behaviour
- Drug taking
Bad Language?
As the list above shows, we can use bad language, however it does come with rules, these are.
There isn't a limit on the amount of times "F***" can be said in the opening title sequence. Although this changes if we use words considered more vulgar such as "C***" Only certain age groups can say bad language, younger actors aren't allowed to use bad language.
Violence?
This is a massive section for our group, because we need to make the death very scary, bloody and gory. As we have decided on 15 being the certificate, we can only do certain things. However we aren't allowed to dwell on the injury and we aren't allowed to make the death to sadistic.

18
To warrant the certificate of 18, you have to have certain things that wouldn't be allowed in leser certificates.

We have decided against using an 18 certificate, as we aren't of age yet, and therefore it wouldn't be right to use this certificate.
We thought that using a 15 certificate was more appropriate, and it still allows use to use many elements of horror.
