Practice Shots
When creating a horror opening title sequence, you do not use every shot and clip in which you film, this may be because they aren't of a high enough quality or it may be because ideas have changed post-filming. The following four media forms show examples of clips and shots in which we haven't decided to use for one reason or another. However, it is important for these to be kept to for reference so as a group we know what not to repeat and how to correct mistakes made within these shots and clips.
This particular The image shows the victim "dead" on the floor, this particular shot of the subject looks unrealistic and badly taken. The way in which the light and flash from the camera shines on the subjects face leads to a look of continuity errors bad shooting. The blood on the face looks patchy and blotched, as if it was fake blood. the audience viewing this image will instantly know that the shot is acted and as far away from reality in terms of acting as possible. However, this shot may be worth using because it expresses the cold looking face in which the subject has. The way in which the subject shows unconsciousness rather than death may show the audience a slower and more painful death and so it may in fact work.
This visual clip shows the subject standing still while the camera shot is blurry and unfocused, this therefore creates a scene without fear nor tension and rather confusion and misunderstanding. The clip is of a short length and so doesn't allow us as an audience to get an idea of what is happening within the clip, we also barely see the victims face and in terms of connotations, this isn't appealing as we only see a shady figure in which the victim is not. This clip will not be used within out horror opening title sequence because it lacks quality as well as the use of a tripod, it is blurry and doesn't captivate the audience nor educate them further within the time span of the clip. However, this clip may be of use as it educates us as a group in how to film scenes such as this one, with a tripod and in focus. We are taught not to rush the filming and to make sure the quality is high before moving onto the next shot.
We decided not to use this specific piece of footage because we feel that the brighting would not be suitable for the genre of a horror, the clip is simply too bright to suit our opening title sequence, this was a human error mistake because the cameraman had the wrong setting, however we could potentially use it to contrast our clips within our opening title sequence. The quality of the sound just adds to how poor the clip is, the person who is speaking is very close to the camera making the voice irritable to the audience.
In this visual clip there is an obvious mistake with a pupil of the school that we decided to film at, he is unintentionally spoiling and ruining your clip. This error is partially our fault because we should have made sure that our location choice was free and we would not be interrupted. We may b able to use this as there is a sense of panic within this clip, which would raise the tension of the audience/crowd.
Even though these shots are unlikely to be in our film, we have gained a lot of knowledge from these clips and we have been able to improve our own ideas and our own filming technique when needing to find the perfect shot. These shots also may be good but not suit the style of our film. Our film is called "unvirtuous" and so these clips may not be able to go with the flow of the theme of being unvirtuous.
