Question 5
How did you attract/address the audience?
To attract the correct audience and ensure we made our OTS appeal to our chosen age range, we researched what 15-18 year olds found interesting and appealing. In order to find out what sort of horror people enjoyed, we conducted questionnaire research and looked at websites such as Amazon to see what the ratings were from a much broader audience. This confirmed to us that slasher was popular among teenagers and there was a gap for it in the horror film market.
Therefore, to appeal to our target audience, we included a variety of scenes and objects in them that the audience can relate to and are interested in. The main aspect was the female killer. She is an unusual character for the typical killer in a horror as females are normally innocent and the victim in horror. We drew attention to her appearance, such as her clothing and accessories to catch the audience's attention and make male teenagers want to watch it, similar to attracting female teenagers towards the male victim. They would find this male character attractive and feel sorry for his plight. He would be the type of character they want to see survive and do well in the story, however this is not the case, therefore, the audience are drawn to him and like his character. Another important part that helped us to attract our intended audience was the location we filmed our OTS at, which was a a school. This is because the majority of our audience attend school on a daily basis and our familiar with this sort of environment. Therefore, they can relate to it and wouldn't expect that sort of horrific and dangerous things to happen in the school. This again, attracts and appeals to them as it makes them want to see more. Below is our answer to Question 5 in a prezi format.
