Location Choices and Pictures
One of the locations we used for our OTS was the basement room below the school hall. This location was suitable because it was dark and in a confined space. The small windows at the top of the walls suggested being trapped because there is no way out and little light being let in, making the room very dark and mysterious. The writing on the door, 'PLEASE LOCK DOOR' is written in bold and edgy text which creates a sense of uneasiness and fear as to what could be behind the door. Therefore, this location was suitable because of the mysterious features the room contains and the trapped in connotations the windows imply.
This location was also very effective for our slasher OTS because the isolated area will make the audience fear for the unknown and what could be lurking around behind buildings and in the bushes. The small part of the fence that is captured on the left hand side of the screenshot suggests to the audience being trapped and unable to escape. The building on the other side also contributes to being trapped as there is no where else to go. By having our killer positioned in the middle but far away from the camera, it makes the audience scared of what is going to happen because they can see the killer in the distance and are aware that something bad may be about to happen. This is due to the eery and empty location that provides no area of safety or freedom, which is why this area was so suitable for filming horror. It immediately implies danger and murder, with no where to run or hide, which is perfect for a slasher where victims get brutally killed.
